Pre-Requisites, Course Schedule and Expectations:

On Friday morning, a mandatory gun-safety skills and abilities demonstration will be required of each instructor-candidate followed by sessions at the rifle range and shotgun field, where each Instructor Candidate will be required to demonstrate ability in several pre-qualification shooting exercises. A description of the pre-qualification exercises will be emailed to all course registrants. Following successful completion of the range and field exercises, we will adjourn to the classroom setting to conduct the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) course. This course is a pre-requisite for all other NRA Instructor-level courses. The NRA requires BIT if this is your first NRA certified instructor rating, or if more than 24 months have passed since you last completed BIT. The NRA Certified Pistol Instructor and NRA Certified Range Safety Officer classes will follow on Saturday and Sunday, 28 & 29 March 2015. Successful completion of these courses will result in your obtaining certification as an NRA Basic Pistol Instructor and NRA Certified Range Safety Officer (RSO). As an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, you will be able to conduct NRA Basic Pistol courses. As an NRA Certified RSO, you will be able to safely oversee live-fire shooting activities. You will also be expected to provide Pistol instruction for BSA Venturing Crews in conjunction with an on-site NRA Certified Range Safety Officer and/or serve as the RSO for live-fire shooting outings. Specific rules for BSA shooting activities will be covered during the course.

Cost: Course cost is $50 for BIT and $150 each for Pistol Instructor and RSO for a total of $350 if you attend the entire weekend. These fees reflect a 50% discount and includes all course materials, meals, firearms usage, ammunition, and accommodations at Camp Comer, but excludes the NRA processing and certification fee ($35 for NRA members, $55 for non-members) which must be paid to the NRA when you establish your online NRA Instructor account after course completion.

We will be staying in climate controlled Staff cabins with bunk beds and mattresses. Bathrooms and showers are co-located with the Staff cabins. You must bring a sleeping bag / blankets, pillow and toiletries. Meals will be provided beginning with lunch on Friday and concluding with lunch on Sunday.

The balance of $100 is due at the beginning of class on Friday, March 27th. Payment may be made by credit card on the NAFT website, or by personal check or money order. Please make checks/funds payable to NAFT. Send deposits to NAFT, 13518 Sweet Pea Street, Athens, AL 35613.
