Greater Alabama Council is proud to host its second Powder Horn course over two weekends next year,  

16 – 18 September and 

October  7 – 9 - 2011.

 

 Participant Qualifications prior to attending Powder Horn:

Must be a registered adult member of the Boy Scouts of America  

  • Must have completed Adult Leader Specific Training for the primary registration program area (Boy Scouting, Varsity, or Venturing)  
  • Must have completed the required outdoor training for that leadership position  
  • Must provide a current BSA Class III (New Form) physical and be able to meet the physical demands of a backcountry environment  
  •  Cost will be $225. For adults and Discounted to $200. for 20 Youth participants ages 14 – 20 Years Old. First time for youth participants!

 

Although Powder Horn is a “Challenge by Choice” course, participants should be in good physical shape and free from medical conditions requiring access to electricity, air conditioning/heating, and the like.  Much of the training will take place in the “Backcountry” and all participants need to be prepared to participate in that type of environment.  

 

Powder Horn is organized around the requirements for the Venturing Ranger Award.  Planned topics include:

Project COPE 

Cycling 

Ecology 

Emergency Preparedness Equestrian

Expedition Planning 

First Aid 

Fishing 

Hunting 

Land Navigation 

Leave No Trace 

Life Saver Mountaineering 

Outdoor Living History Physical Fitness 

Plants and Wildlife Scuba 

Shooting Sports Watercraft 

Wilderness Survival Working with Teens Winter Sports
